a.       Len Paganini (Tournaments)

--reported that the initial order of 36 hats as been received and distributed.  He has orders for 18 hats as part of the second order of 36 – but is not placing another order right away.

--reported that orders for 20 white shirts with the club logo have been pre-sold and he will go ahead and order the first buy of 24.

--Week one of the two-week partner best ball tournament will kick off tomorrow, May 5, 2019.  There are 29 teams scheduled -- equally distributed between the three levels A, B, and C.

--The Men and Women Mixer Tournament is scheduled for May 19, 2019.  There are 33 men players signed up right now, but are requirement is 36 so we still have several slots available.  The position of bartender for the luncheon is still vacant so the club is looking for someone to take charge of this effort since buying and serving the drinks is the responsibility of the men’s club.

--reported he is also working with Dave Emal in gathering the details for a hamburger and hotdog BBQ to be held on the 28th of August on the CH 2 patio.   There will be more on this effort next meeting as we get closer to the date of the event.

-b.  Frank Harrison (Handicaps)

--reported that the handicaps had been recalculated at the end of May 2019 and they are now out on the website.  They will be used for the upcoming “Partner Best Ball Tournament”.

-c. Joe Rhodes (Treasurer)

--reported that the club is solvent.  The club’s bank account stands at $7,800 after the first major tournament, President’s Cup -- the first major expense of the year at $1,600 for the luncheon.  It was considered by all as a great success.

-d.  Dave Emal and Len Paganini

-- reported that Tijeras Creek Golf Club has a junior league team who wants to come over and play some of the older folks here at Laguna Woods.  They play a 2-man team scramble format and the current plan is for 12 junior players or 6 teams to come over to Laguna Woods and play 12 of our senior golfers.  All players would play off the white tees.  The date set for this event is June 26th and the tournament will be called “The Laguna Woods Youth Challenge, (LWYC)”.  Costs for the event is still being worked out and there is a chance the golf course would foot the bill.  At most we would have to pay the $8.00 green fee or 12 junior golfers times 8 or $96.00.

Additional Info on the Junior League Team.  The Tijeras team is in the OC #1   League, there are 3 other teams in this league:  Talega Golf Club, Mission Viejo CC and Monarch Beach.  Orange County has five U13 leagues with a total of 25 teams.

The Tijeras team is made up of 5 boys and 5 girls ages 11 to 13.  Last year this team won the Championship and one member, Ryder also competed at the National level for the Drive, Chip, Putt event at the Masters in Augusta, finishing in 3rd place overall in his age group.  The team is coached by Tim Walsh, our guest speaker last month.
