LWVGC Men’s 9-Hole Club Board Meeting Minutes
Date: February 7, 2017, 9:00 am, Los Olivos Room, CH2
Attendees: Scott Breunsbach, Bill Jensen, Bob Batchelor, Chi-Chin Wang, Don Beckhart, Frank Harrison, Leonard Paganini, Mark Nussbaum, Rick Gehman, Lloyd Woodson
1. Scott Breunsbach, President, opened the meeting:
a. December minutes were approved and adopted.
b. Received notice about Village games: [Mark] A large number of games were staged. People just sign up to it. Golf by individual flight, age and HDCP. Winners get medals. Par 3 is grouped by age only.
c. Recommend to cancel tomorrow’s tournament due to wet weather and cart-path only. Open play. Len to send out e mail. Sign-up desk will still be manned.
2. Old business:
a. Notices for breakfast and other meetings: The Cost was $60 per month. Will use e mail (According to Joe 14 did not have e mail). Gil Rowland, Communication, will call those who do not have e mail.
b. Alan Simons signed up without phone number and e mail. Will track him down.
3. Mark Nussbaum, Treasurer:
a. Month-end Balance $7,260,
b. Mark and Bill are on signature list.
c. To change statement address to Mark’s home address.
4. Don Beckhart:
a. New member orientation, to use a package to go over the processes. Len will help to show the new members how to use the computer when they come in to the sign-up desk.
5. Bob Bachelor:
a. Membership: currently the club has 130 members. Solicit ideas to promote to get a higher number ( ~150).
· Recruit at the Village Games;
· On Globe, do Golfer of the Month to gain publicity. Len has all the scores, can make recommendation.
· Bob to talk to Jennifer about the logistics (picture, profile etc.), Bill to champion
· Don: New villagers orientation is an opportunity to promote (Next session Thursday, 2/9 at 4 pm in CH1)
c. Roster books: To consider putting individual picture by the name (Lady’s book has pictures); cost may be higher (Now $450 for 250 copies, have >$1,000 ad income), Will have names who have carts. Also keep the cart list on the sign-up desk.
6. Len Paganini, Tournament:
a. Staged tournaments in as best as the weather allowed during the last two months.
b. Sign-up desk: to recruit more volunteers
c. 2/15/17 Four men yellow-ball tournament: Each team gets a numbered yellow ball. Team members decide to assign each player to play the yellow ball on designed holes. Team is done if the yellow ball is lost. For each hole team score is the total of the yellow ball and the next best score. The ball has to be returned with the team scorecard to be counted. HDCP is the team average of four players.
7. Bill Jenson:
a. Club Pro Kris Callan will be the speaker for March: How to get out of the sand trap under various situations.
c. Club swap at the Breakfast meeting: good idea
d. Speaker on: Tips on workout that helps golf playing. May be we could find someone to speak.
8. Frank Harrison:
a. Mixer will be on July 11, Len, Bob and Mark to attend the meeting.
b. Course dress code: no blue jeans, shirt with collar, etc. will start enforcement on March 1.
c. New printer: to share cost with the Lady’s, our share is $19.11.
d. New clubs at Par-3: men’s and women’s, asking for our advice. Has a nice lounge.
9. Scott Breunsbach:
a. Awards to outstanding service members, see list attached, both within club and outside. Ask Joe to prepare plaque etc. Give out at luncheon at President’s tournament. Will do this annually starting 2017.
b. BBQ lunch after President’s cup in May. Playing members only.
c. Breakfast cost: Yolanda’s charge increased from $5.00 to $5.50. To let members know that the cost will go up to $6 per person starting April. Also will announce the subsidy paid by the Club.
d. Open Board member positions: we still need 3 more, will assign responsibility after coming in.
10. The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 am.
Next month breakfast meeting: March 14, 2017 at 8:30 am, Clubhouse 2, Sequoia Room.
