Brett McBride playing in his 1st Metro Championship, quickly made-up a 2-shot deficit entering Sunday's 2nd round at Detwiler after posting a 3-under front nine 32. He backed the front nine up with a 1-under 35 on the back nine for a fine 67 and 4 shot win over Saturday's leader Brian Gerken and Brian Simmons. McBride shot an even par 72 in Saturday's first round at Sandy Creek, a course he had never seen before, yet he was able to make 6 birdies, and with another 5 at Detwiler he totaled 11 birdies for the 36 holes. Brian Gerken, who led after a 2-under round Saturday (70) and Brian Simmons who was 1-under Saturday, shot 36 and 37 respectively on Detwiler's front nine Sunday as both tied for second at even par 143. Tony Reams was fourth at 146.
In the net division, Mike Govito started the day 7 shots behind Saturday's leader Mark Brezvai (65) and 5 shots behind Dave Mikolajczak (67) . Govito played a very solid round of even par 71 for a net 64 and a 1-shot victory over both Mikolajczak and Brezvai with a 2 day total 136. Unfortunately, a mix-up by Brezvai and his foursome resulted in a 4-shot penalty (as determined by the committee) for playing the wrong tees on 2 holes.
