Gerken, Kettler undeterred by wind, cold in Metro opener at Chippewa and capture scratch and handicap divisions-all results now posted.

For the 2nd time in 3 years, the Metro's opening tournament at Chippewa, was hindered by gale force winds and bone-chilling temperatures. And this year you can add greens laced with dew because of melted frost that made the greens about a 2 on the Stimpmeter and an otherwise soggy course. Brian Gerken must relish these conditions because 2 years ago he won by 6 shots and this time he won by 3, after shooting nines of 37-36 for a 2-over total 73. This was good enough for a three shot victory over Brett McBride who shot 36-40-76, and he was in great position to win, until losing 4 shots on 15, 16 and 17.Reigning Metro Player of the Year Brian Simmons, Kyle Brossia, Mark Kontak and Ben Rucker tied for 3rd with 77's.
In the net division, Thomas Kettler shot consistent nines of 39-39-78 good for a 2-under net score of 69. This bested the duo of Terry Kohlenberg-45-42-87 and Jack Pozsik 41-44-85, by a shot as they netted 1-under 70's. Jerry Reid-71, was 4th, Doug Gust-72, was 5th and George Morris-73, was 6th.
