It was a cool weekend as the Metro Championship was contested at Detwiler on Saturday followed by the final round Sunday, in very blustery conditions, at Sandy Creek. Long-time Metro member Terry Tyson had a 2-shot lead entering Sunday's final round, after shooting 1-under 70 at Detwiler Saturday. His round included 4 birdies and a double bogey. Under difficult playing conditions, Tyson left the door open a bit, shooting 77 with 1 birdie and another double in Sunday's round, for a 147 total. Jeff Godzak entered Sunday 3 shots behind. Godzak's 2 over 73 at Detwiler Saturday included a quadruple bogey on (our) hole number 12, which was off-set with 4 birdies. Sunday, despite 2 double bogeys, Godzak shot the day's best round, 74, after carding 5 more birdies for the weekend, including a birdie 4 on the last hole to tie for the championship. Jermain Champ Brian Gerken finished 3rd with rounds of 72-76 148. His round Saturday was marred by a double on 12 after it was determined he was not entitled to a drop which ultimately cost him 3 shots. Tony Reams was fourth at 74-75 149 as an early triple on hole 13 at Detwiler cost him in the end.
In the net division Greg Graff shot what I believe was by far his best Metro round Saturday at Detwiler (actual 82) for a net 60 and a 5 shot lead entering Sunday. Graff shot an actual 95 Sunday and netted 71 dor a total of 131. Alan Dorfmeyer netted 66 Saturday after shooting 80 at Detwiler, and his follow-up 80/net 65 Sunday at Sandy Creek wiped out his 6 shot deficit enabling him to claim a piece of the Championship with Graff. Scott Conrad and Brad Phillips were distant 3rd place finishers with 138 totals, and Metro Handicap Chairman Dave Harloff finished 5th at 139.
