.A week ago the courses were blanketed with 8 inches of snow and golfing yesterday seemed unlikely. However, a week of improving weather, stellar work by Master golf getting the course playable, and a beautiful day Saturday, enabled Brian Gerken to begin defense of his 2015 Player of the Year honor. Gerken was up to the task as he carded 4 birdies and an eagle on the second hole as he shot 34-35-2 under 69, which tied him with Brian Simmons. Simmons had 3 birdies and the same nines of 34-35-69. Gerken birdied #18 with a good approach to a very tough pin (just over the ever-widening creek) to garner the tie. Ken Konoff shot 71 for third in scratch, while Fred Mann, Terry Tyson and Mitchell Kontak all fired 72's to tie for 4th.
Konoff made 5 birdies in his round of net 64 with actual nines of 36-35. Fred Mann also made 5 birdies shooting nines of 35-37 (actual) and a net of 66. Al Szczublewski was third with a net 67 and yours truly Jim O'Neal was next at 68.
