Brian Simmons shot 1-under 34 on the front nine at Eagle Rock Saturday, yet found himself down by 2 shots to John Zitkovic. Simmons birdied both 10 and 11 to close the gap, but it was the par 5 13th hole that really catapulted his round. Unsure if his drive was even in bounds, Simmons found his ball safe and was able to hit an 8 iron on the green. He jarred the putt for eagle and took a 1-shot lead that was never relinquished. After making his 5th birdie of the day on the par 5 15th hole, Simmons took a 2 shot lead, and was able to withstand a double on 16 to squeeze out a 1 shot victory. Simmons fired a 4-under round of 34/33-67, that included 5 birdies and an eagle. Zitkovic also had a fine round of 32/36-68 that included 4 birdies, against a lone bogey on #16. Tom Yeager fired even par 71 for 3rd and Connor Stykemain was 4th with 74.
Zitkovic netted 66, as did Dave Mikolajczak, who made 4 front nine birdies to make the turn at 2-under. However, Mikolajczak lost 5 shots on the last 3 holes costing him the outright net victory. Ron Heringhausen, Brian Simmons and Al Szczublewski tied for 3rd with net 67's.
