Brian Simmons has had a busy summer between coaching his kids in baseball and moving his family to a new home. Golf was put on the back-burner. Brian played well in the Jed's Toledo Am a few weeks ago, but yesterday he was a bit sharper and was able to squeak out a 1-shot victory over Mitchell Kontak, after firing an even par-36/36-72. Simmons was boosted by his eagle 3 on the 10th hole (old number 5 as the new owners changed the order in which the course is now played). Kontak , 37/36-73, had 4 birdies, and after hitting a great bunker shot on 18, saw his par putt just miss and slide by the hole. Three players shot 75 and all had their chances, Player of Year leader Tom Yeager had 3 birdies, but doubled the tight 5th hole, Amenophis Evans made the turn at 2-under 34, but bogeyed the last 4 holes and Mark Kontak made 3 birdies, but mixed in a few bogeys. Mark Augustyniak (76 actual) tied Evans for low net. He made 4 birdies, but had 3 doubles. Mark Kontak and Simmons netted 71's and were a shot behind, and Dave Pierce, Jeff Hall, and Gregg Graff tied for 5th net with 73's. It was fun playing a beautiful course on a beautiful day-which we haven't had the last few years (rain & cold).
