On a blustery day, but playing from the shorter white tees, the leaderboard for both divisions was tightly bunched. However, B.J. Claus, one of the area's best amateurs for many years (when he decides to golf and not fish), prevailed over a large field at Chippewa Sunday. Claus carded 4 birdies and had nines of 35-35 for a 1-under par 70, good enough for a slim 1-shot victory. Kyle Tracy, with a new baby at home and playing with little sleep, also had 4 birdies on nines of 37-34 for even par 71. A triple on the 5th hole probably kept him from the win. Tom Yeager, also a veteran player with many, many wins over the past decades in the TMGA, carded 5 birdies while firing 33-38-71. Jim Torsok was third at 1-over 72.
Dan Ibarra and Tom Kontak made their handicaps count as both netted 68. Ibarra fired nines of 37-45-82 and Kontak had a nice round of 38-36-74, which incidentally bested his brother Mark and nephew Mitchell-sorry guys couldn't resist :-). Dave Harloff and Felix Cantu were 3rd net with 69's and Tyson Spence and Jeff Kruzel were 5th with net 70's.
