Yeager holds off fast charging Mullett to win scratch div and Harloff recovers to win net division over Bacon in Tom Wolf Memorial Fall Classic
The Fall Classic was Tom Wolf's idea some 22 years and has been renamed in his honor for his many years of service on behalf of the Metro. We have all missed him this year and many toasted him after Saturday's first round. My guess is that he had a few chuckles with the hard & fast greens and tough pin placements at Stone Ridge Golf Course this past weekend.
However, Tom Yeager, who had a 3-shot lead after the 1st round, was able to withstand Jay Mullett's 4 back nine birdies (including on the treacherous 18th hole), to hang on for a 1-shot victory 73-75-148 to 79-70-149. John Hills and "Lil" Tony Reams tied for 3rd @151.
Yeager's win made the Barry Latta Player of theYear title totally up in the air with the stroke average probably determining the winner.
Dave Harloff overcame a backnine triple bogey and played the last 4 holes 1 under to capture the handicap division by a shot over George Bacon, who once again played a fine tournament.
